I am a professor and acting director of the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Vigo and I am also a member of the Galician inter-university research center in social sciences ECOBAS, where I was deputy director between 2023 and 2025. In addition, I am research affiliate of the CEEPR at the MIT and a member of the Scientific Council of Elcano Royal Institute. I have promoted and co-directed Economics for Energy, a non-profit Spanish research center to foster knowledge and dissemination in energy economics and related fields, between 2010 and 2026. I have also collaborated with the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in the production of its Fifth (2014) and Sixth (2022) Assessment Reports (respectively as lead author and review editor). Moreover, between 2014 and 2017 I was the director of the Florence School of Regulation-Climate at the European University Institute, a leading international institution established in Florence by EU member states to foster research in social sciences. My research interests lie at the boundaries between climate, energy and public economics: my work has been published in leading academic journals and I regularly participate in conferences and workshops, in many cases as the organizing host. I have supervised several doctoral students, led many research projects, both publicly and privately funded, and enjoyed several research stays at different international universities. In my academic work I have always attempted to respond, with rigor and neutrality, to relevant socio-economic issues and looked for channels through which such findings could be widely disseminated to society, media, companies, and policymakers. In this sense, I have been a member of the EAERE's Policy Outreach Committee since its creation in 2018 (Secretary General in 2024-2025). Furthermore, I was a member of the Committee of Experts for the Reform of the Spanish Tax System to produce its white book (2022). I was awarded the Galician Academy of Sciences medal for research achievements in economics and social sciences in its first edition (2019).
